MEET KAYLA
👋🏼 Hi there! Thank you for taking the time to look at some of my work. I’m a User Experience Designer II at TaxSlayer. I designed and launched Optical Character Recognition for Forms W-2, 1099-MISC, and 1099-NEC for our Consumer application. I lead full UX lifecycle processes for mobile, web, and native app, while evangelizing accessibility throughout the design lifecycle.
I have 6 years of professional experience in UX Design and I’m proud to share that I earned my CPACC credential through IAAP in 2024 and my UXMC from NN/g in 2025.
Previously, I worked for The Home Depot, designing Enterprise solutions in Salesforce Lightning for the all-star call center Associates in the Home Services organization. Before that, I led UX Research Operations at AT&T’s prepaid wireless service provider, Cricket Wireless.
🎨 My Design Process
I use a combination of the Human-Centered Design (HCD) process and the Double Diamond but I realize that projects will differ, depending on the problem space, timeline, and technical constraints.

💡 My Journey to Becoming a UX Designer
For as long as I can remember, I always found myself internally scheming to redesign products and processes. I’d notice feeling frustrated with online shopping carts, check-out interfaces, public restroom lines, sidewalk paths that made me walk the longest way possible around, and even paper towel dispensers, and wondering how I could change them! I didn’t know that UX Design was a career path until I found myself supporting digital design teams at AT&T as an Executive Assistant in 2018. I fell in love with UX and I fully immersed myself in it, starting with self-learning, interviewing designers, and taking as many free and paid courses as I could, until I was accepted into General Assembly’s UX 3-month full-time immersive Bootcamp. After graduating from GA’s program, I secured a highly-coveted UX Apprenticeship role at The Home Depot on their UX Enterprise team.
Patience and empathy are some of my greatest strengths and I’ve been professionally trained in how to listen to people, thanks to my time in graduate school. The art of research plays a heavy role in all that I do and I find joy in uncovering concerns, motivations, and behaviors. I started applying mindfulness to online experiences. My Psychology background helped prepare me to actively engage with users in the design world and taught me how to facilitate unbiased, structured conversations that impact and drive change. I translate business problems and user needs into intuitive solutions that are research-based and user-centered.
We’re impacted emotionally by thousands of products and services every day, consciously or not, and I will always strive to use my expertise to create solutions that make life better. If my designs help someone feel empowered and less overwhelmed, whether they’re browsing cell phone plans, booking an appointment, researching an upcoming medical procedure, or treating themselves to an online purchase, then that makes me happy! ✨
